Yesterday at WWDC, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi announced the new version of Swift. Swift is a programming language developed by Apple. The new version will be called Swift 2 and will be open source.
Swift 2 offers advanced error handling, availability checking and syntax enhancements among other improvements but being open source is what made this announcement huge.
Swift 2 will be open source for Linux too. With this, Apple has broken some stereotypes about itself being closed and non – developer friendly. This also means that to develop apps for iOS and OS X, you dont need a mac.
